The Farm Bill of 2018 made it federally legal to grow hemp and extract cannabidiol, so long as it is from hemp plants that contain less than 0.3% THC. However, the FDA is still reviewing the use of CBD and has not made a ruling on the use of cannabinoids as food additives or dietary supplements. Consumers are advised to consult with their health care provider before using any products containing hemp extract. For more information about FDA regulation, see here.
